IPL 2022 | Mohsin ahead of Umran in terms of a national call-up: BCCI insider

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 has been a witness to many fast bowlers proving their talent and helping their respective teams to secure crucial victories. The likes of Mukesh Choudhary, Mohsin Khan, Yash Dayal, and Umran Malik are a few of them who have knocked on the doors of the national team. 

The left-arm pacer from Uttar Pradesh, Mohsin, has cemented his place in the Lucknow Super Giants team by his terrific line, lengths and variations. Thus far, he has picked up a total of ten wickets in six appearances at an economy of 5.17. 

On the other hand, Jammu sensation Umran Malik has breathed fire with his pace and also clocked a speed of 157 kph in one of the fixtures. In 12 matches, he has picked up 18 wickets at an economy of 9.02. 

In the latest interaction with PTI, the BCCI source has reckoned that the pace bowling combinations in the XI have been already set, and not enough experimentation is expected from the selectors. 

However, he admitted that Mohsin Khan has impressed with his abilities and is slightly ahead in this race against the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Umran. 

"Our pace bowling department is set, and selectors might not experiment too much," a BCCI source said. 

"But yes, Mohsin has impressed almost everyone with his pace, bounce and swing in this edition. He does have a chance. Having said that, not ruling out Umran or Arshdeep either, but Mohsin might just be slightly ahead," he added.

It was also reported that the selectors would be resting the senior players for the five-match T20I series against South Africa in June. In terms of the pace bowling unit, Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan are likely to be given chances in place of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. 

On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to be the lead spinners.
