Russell becomes fastest (in terms of deliveries) to cross 2000 IPL runs

Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell added yet another feather to his cap on Saturday (May 14) as he became the fastest (in terms of deliveries faced) to rack up 2000 plus runs in the Indian Premier League.

Russell achieved the milestone at the expense of the Sunrisers Hyderabad during his belligerent unbeaten knock of 49 off 28 deliveries at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Russell has taken just 1120 deliveries to scale the 2000-run barrier and has overtaken former Indian opener Virender Sehwag's record.

Sehwag, who represented the Delhi Daredevils and Punjab Kings during his career, was the record-holder till now. The blistering opener took just 1211 deliveries for his 2000 runs.

Sehwag is followed by 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle, who took 1251 deliveries for the same. They are followed by current Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant (1306) and RCB's Glenn Maxwell (1309).

Coming back to Russell, the West Indian cricketer has been in brilliant form this season, and he showcased another glimpse of it on Saturday.

The right-handed batsman smashed as many as three fours and four monstrous sixes to ensure that the Knight Riders ended up with 177/6 in 20 overs.

In 12 innings thus far, Russell has smoked 330 runs at an average of 41.25 and a staggering strike rate of 182.32 with one 50+ score.

In addition to this, he has also proved to be more than handy with the ball, having taken 15 wickets at 14.73 (at the time of writing).

He has also become the only cricketer to complete the double of 250+ runs and 10+ wickets in a single edition of the IPL in four different seasons, making him one of the greatest all-rounders to have ever graced this league.

Overall, Russell scored 2030 runs in 81 innings at a strike rate of 179.17 and took 87 wickets at 24.39.

Cricket Netherlands appoint Ryan Cook as interim coach

The Royal Dutch Cricket Association, on Saturday, announced Ryan Cook as the interim coach of the men's cricket team in place of Ryan Campbell. Cook has previously served as the fielding coach of the Bangladesh men's cricket team, besides working as fielding and assistant coach of the South African U-19 team and the Hobart Hurricanes at the Big Bash League (BBL) in 2018. In a statement released by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB), Cook said that he is 'honoured' and 'delighted' to join the set-up and is looking to work closely with players and other members of the support staff. "I am honoured to be joining the team and look forward to working with the players and coaches for the next few months. There is an exciting schedule ahead, and I aim to help the team from strength to strength," said Cook. Cook has been appointed interim coach after regular coach Ryan Campbell suffered cardiac arrest during a family holiday in England earlier this month. The former Australian and Hong Kong International, who represented the former in three ODIs and a couple of T20Is, spent a week in an induced coma at the NHS Royal Stoke University Hospital before finally getting discharged. Campbell was appointed head coach of the Dutch men's team back in 2017, and the KNCB, in their statement, confirmed that they expect the former international cricketer to make a complete recovery and return to the side later in the summer. Interim coach Cook's maiden assignment will be a three-match One-Day International series against the West Indies between May 31 and June 4. Following this, the Dutch will host world champions England for another three-match series from June 17 to 22. This will be followed by a couple of T20Is against New Zealand and three ODIs against Pakistan (August 16-21) in the month of August. These ODI assignments will be crucial for the Netherlands as they aim to improve their position in the ongoing ODI Super League. They are currently languishing at the last spot in the points table, having managed just two victories in ten outings, thus far.
