IPL 2022 | Malinga still has hopes in Mumbai despite team having vile season

It is said that your true friends show their love in times of trouble, not happiness. This could not be any truer for the pair of Malinga and his previous franchise, Mumbai Indians.

This IPL season has started in the worst possible way for one of the most popular IPL franchises, the Mumbai Indians. They have lost their first six games in a row despite trying all possible team combinations. And at present, their woes do not seem to have an end.

In such dire times, their former player and Rajasthan’s bowling coach Lasith Malinga have given them some needed support. The slingy Sri Lankan took it to the social media platform Twitter to showcase his faith in his former franchise.

“@mipaltan has always been a team of comebacks. Whether or not they get through to the playoffs this year, expect them to have a strong finish to the season”, wrote Malinga.

Malinga showed his trust in Mumbai Indian’s core group of players and their hard-working support staff.

“Their core group of players and the support staff definitely have the quality to pull them back”, he further added.

Lasith Malinga was appointed as the fast bowling coach of the Rajasthan Royals on March 11th this year. Before that, Malinga had a long stint of 11 years with the Mumbai Indians. He played 122 matches with MI, taking 170 wickets at an economy rate of 7.14 RPO. He also coached the team in the 2018 season.

It is clear that Malinga has strong faith and high hopes in his previous franchise. Let’s see if Rohit Sharma’s men can live up to those.
