IPL 2022 | GT vs CSK | Miller, Rashid's fireworks spoils Chennai's party

The 29th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 produced a thrilling contest as Gujarat Titans (GT) rocked Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) boat, beating them by three wickets at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium, Pune.

While Gujarat Titans were off the track early on in the chase of 170 runs, David Miller and Rashid Khan got them through in what can be termed as the turnaround of the season.

Paceman Mukesh Chaudhary provided CSK with an early breakthrough in the form of Shubman Gill. Gujarat's hopes laid on the in-form batter but he got out for a golden duck.

Vijay Shankar and Abhinav Manohar fell prey to Maheesh Theekshana's trap as the Sri Lankan spinner showed his prowess to give CSK a perfect start while defending the total.

Although a daunting task awaited David Miller, he was up for it and displayed his might right from the word go. Miller first pounced on Ravindra Jadeja, who was doing well until then. The South African power-hitter smashed 19 runs in the left-armer's over.

Despite Miller's acceleration, the run rate continued to climb, with the batters on the opposite end not providing much help. But then arrived GT's stand-in skipper Rashid Khan, who sent Chris Jordan to the cleaners. In the most unorthodox style, Rashid hit the death-overs specialist for three sixes and a four in the 18th over and shifted the momentum of the game in the Titans' favour.

Dwayne Bravo refilled some belief back in the CSK camp, bowling a fine penultimate over but Jordan came back to bowl the last over and leaked as many as 13 runs in five balls to help Gujarat win the match by three wickets.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings were put in to bat with Ruturaj Gaikwad coming back to his best. The youngster aided the team in their recovery after losing early wickets in the powerplay. Ruturaj and Rayudu took the attack to the opposition bowlers and gave CSK a great chance of posting a big total on the scoreboard.

However, Alzarri Joseph and Mohammad Shami pulled back the game well in the final five overs. Last match's hero Shivam Dube struggled today, but Ravindra Jadeja's quick-fire 22-run knock took CSK to 169 runs.

Courtesy of his heroic innings of 94 runs, David Miller became the Player of the Match.
