IPL 2022 | Kane Williamson is about to have his second child, set to fly back home

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson has left the bio-bubble to be with his wife as the couple is expecting their second kid. The franchise announced on Wednesday (May 18) that Williamson is returning to New Zealand to welcome the newest member of his family.

"Here's everyone at the #Riser camp wishing Kane Williamson and his wife a safe delivery and a lot of happiness," SRH stated in a tweet.

The news came a day after Williamson guided SRH to a 3-run win over Mumbai Indians, keeping their slender chances of making the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 playoffs alive.

There are already reports about Glenn Phillips being named his New Zealand captain's replacement for the rest of the tournament. Phillips is tailor-made for the T20 format as he can explosively bat up the order, apart from having the abilities to bowl part-time off-breaks, be a gun fielder and be an energetic man behind the sticks.

With 12 points from 13 games, SRH are presently ranked eighth in the IPL 2022 points standings. On Sunday, May 22, they will play Punjab Kings in their last league stage match.

It is going to be tricky to watch who the team management would choose as the captain in the absence of the Kiwi batter. Among top names emerging, Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar - who has led the team earlier - and West Indies' newly named white-ball captain Nicholas Pooran are in the reckoning.

Notably, after being retained by the franchise, the New Zealand captain has played 13 matches for SRH this season but has failed to deliver with the bat, accumulating just 216 runs at a strike rate of 93.51.
