Back injury to keep Fisher out of the game for a prolonged period: Ottis Gibson

Matthew Fisher was expected to make it into the English Test side for the home team's first assignment of the summer against the WTC champions New Zealand. But unfortunately, his destiny took a U-turn as the promising fast bowler was ruled out of the Yorkshire squad following a back injury just before the encounter against Northamptonshire. 

Initially, Fisher was speculated to be out of action for four weeks. However, a further detailed probe into his injury has ascertained that it will take a significant amount of time for him to recover from it. As a result, there has been no timeline given for his recovery.

This unfortunate news was surfaced by none other than Yorkshire's head coach, Ottis Gibson. After the game against Lancashire, Gibson informed the reporters that Fisher's recovery from the sustained injury would be slower than expected, and the management is in no mood to rush him considering his proneness to injury. 

"Fish, initially I'd said four weeks. But further reports from the medical team seem to suggest that's going to be a slower process than anticipated," Gibson said. "Because of his injury history, we're going to have to take a more cautious approach with him," he further added. 

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club has also given a statement, "Fisher's rehabilitation program has been progressing well, and the club's medical staff will continue to monitor and work hard with the young fast bowler with his long-term performance in mind at all times." 

Regarded as one of the finest young talents in the English domestic circuit, Fisher's brief first-class career has been marred by injuries as the 24-year-old has suffered injuries to his back, hamstring, thumb and shoulder so far. 

With the likes of Wood, Archer, Woakes, and Robinson unavailable for selection, it was a golden opportunity for the young seamer to make his mark in international cricket. However, he will have to wait for his time as it stands now.
