IPL 2022 | Jos Buttler joins Virat Kohli, David Warner with playoffs ton vs RCB

The Rajasthan Royals soared into the final of the IPL 2022 season, where they will face newcomers Gujarat Titans on May 29. The Sanju Samson-led side mauled the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifier 2 with seven wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Opening batsman Jos Buttler continued his period of good fortune with another match-winning ton, this time clobbering an undefeated 106 off just 60 balls. His knock was littered with ten boundaries and six towering sixes in front of 100,000+ roaring spectators at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Employing enterprising strokeplay, Buttler’s latest batting recital marked his fourth hundred of the season, and it also took him past the 800-run mark this year. Unsurprisingly, the right-hander remains the Orange Cap merchant of IPL 2022.

Jos Buttler charts a record-breaking season by joining Kohli, Warner

The Rajasthan Royals opener currently has 824 runs across 16 IPL 2022 innings. With four tons and four half-centuries, he has scored his runs at an imperial average of 58.86 and has maintained a 151.47 strike rate.

Buttler’s tally of 824 runs this year now makes him only the third batsman in IPL history to record 800 or more runs in a single edition. The other cricketers in this exclusive list are Virat Kohli (973 runs) and David Warner (848 runs), with both instances taking place in IPL 2016.

While the English batter still has a game left to play this season, he could add a few more runs to his account and possibly overtake Warner’s 2016 spectacle. However, overhauling Kohli’s all-time record might remain a distant dream as Buttler would have to score at least 150 runs against the likes of Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan in the final.

The IPL 2022 final is scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad, and the action will commence from 8:00 pm onwards.
