Babar Azam has been voted as the best ever T20 player of Somerset in a fan survey done ahead of the 2022 T20 Blast. In addition, AB de Villiers, Alex Hales, Moeen Ali, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Colin Ingram, Ravi Bopara, David Willey, Jos Buttler, and Luke Wright have all been picked as the finest cricketers in the history of their respective teams.
The Pakistani skipper represented Somerset in the 2020 edition of the tournament, in which he amassed 218 runs from seven innings at a healthy average of 36.33.
Although he didn’t have an ideal start to the tournament, he managed to score just 58 runs in the first four matches, including a golden duck against Worcestershire. However, Babar made a roaring comeback by playing a match-winning knock of 114 runs off just 62 balls against Glamorgan.
It is worth mentioning that the stylish batter from Lahore completed 5000 runs in the shortest format of the game during his stint with the Taunton-based County cricket club.
However, this season, Babar is not participating in the Blast due to national commitments as Pakistan is set to play a three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Also, despite being one of the most expensive players in the Hundred draft, the Pakistani captain went unsold in the draft, however latest reports have said Babar was unwilling to participate citing personal reasons.
