IPL 2022 | Hardik Pandya gives credit to Mumbai Indians for his success as GT captain

Experienced all-rounder Hardik Pandya has given all the credit to the Mumbai Indians (MI) for his amazing success as the captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Pandya has already played for Mumbai Indians for seven years after making his debut in 2015. But after a poor season in 2021, Mumbai Indians had released him just before the mega auction of 2022 IPL. And Gujarat Titans used the opportunity very well and picked him up ahead of the mega auction of the cash-rich league, appointing him as the skipper.

On the other hand, Gujarat Titans have become the first team to qualify for the 2022 IPL playoffs. On Sunday, May 15, they cemented their place in the top two after beating four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets.

"You don't get extra points for finishing early, so it is important to win. (On his captaincy), I did alright because having played in the previous franchise where a lot of responsibility was given to the players. I have always enjoyed responsibility where it kind of gives me ownership of things where I can control. And I feel where I have batted throughout my career has given me a lot of idea about how the game is going, which kind of bowler will be important in certain situations. Playing for a different franchise and doing what I have done in the past has helped me in my captaincy," Hardik Pandya was quoted as saying after the match.

However, Hardik Pandya also applauded Gujarat Titans' head coach Ashish Nehra for his outstanding contribution to the team's success so far. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans will play their last league match against Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday, May 19, at the Wankhede Stadium before they feature in the Qualifier 1 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

"Ashu pa (Ashish Nehra) and I have very similar mindsets. We connect without saying much. We'll see if any player requires rest, otherwise we need to keep the momentum. The core group needs to be intact. If fast bowlers need rest, we'll rotate otherwise it'll stay the same," Hardik Pandya concluded.

‘Still can't believe Andrew is no more’: Harbhajan Singh on Symonds’ demise

Harbhajan Singh's remembrance of Andrew Symonds is a perfect testimony of how time heals everything. After the demise of the ex-Australian international, Bhajji, like many others worldwide, paid his homage to Symonds. "Wherever you are, mate, we want you to rest in peace, and you would be missed," the former Indian off-spinner said. The friendship between Harbhajan and Symonds has a long history. India and Australia faced off in the 2008 Border-Gavaskar Series at the time. Symonds claimed Harbhajan had used a racist epithet against him in Sydney. As a result, Harbhajan was initially banned for three matches, but this was later reduced to a 50% punishment after a highly publicized battle. Interestingly, a few years later, the duo shared the same dressing room during their stint with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 'Turbanator' admitted that he got close to 'Roy' once he knew him. "Obviously, we've had a lot of history. Thanks to IPL and Mumbai Indians for putting both of us together in one dressing room. And once I got to know such a lovely human being, and we became very good friends. We used to sit together, have a drink, and laugh. He used to share a lot of stories. He was someone who I could call at 2:30 in the morning and say, 'Hey mate, what are you doing, what are you up to, let's meet', and he would be up for it," Bhajji disclosed. The cricketer-turned-commentator showcased an utter shock after hearing about Symmo's death. When Harbhajan heard about the shocking news on Sunday, he couldn't believe it. In an interview with Star Sports, Harbhajan revealed, "I was so shocked when I woke up this morning and saw my phone and I was shattered with this news that Andrew is no more. I still can't believe Andrew is no more because he's such a strong guy and whatever has happened is a very sad thing. My condolences to his family and friends and it's a loss for all of us." Symonds' death at the age of 46 came as a shock to the cricketing world. After the unexpected death of Shane Warne in March of this year, Australia lost another legend in Symonds.
