IPL 2022 | Daniel Vettori lavishes praise on Wriddhiman Saha

Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has praised Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Wriddhiman Saha for his consistent contribution to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). He further added that Wriddhiman Saha has done quite well this season, and his comments came after Gujarat Titan's seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Vettori said, "We need to give a lot of credit to Wriddhiman Saha. He has been very consistent and has given his side enough runs in the powerplay to not put too much pressure on Shubman Gill or Hardik Pandya. He's been a real catalyst for them in going from just winning games to winning them comfortably."

However, the veteran Wriddhiman Saha scored an unbeaten half-century against CSK on Sunday - 67 runs from 57 balls to guide his side to chase down the target of 134 comfortably. In the same video, Piyush Chawla has also shared that, while it is their maiden season of IPL, their players have done quite well in the league so far.

He said, "GT are a new team but the players are still old and have enough experience of playing in the IPL. They have gelled really well and they have looked quite balanced. They could just look to make one or two changes now. I would like to see Lockie Ferguson back for the big games because he is a matchwinner."

However, Gujarat Titans (GT) have confirmed their berth in the top two of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) after their convincing 7-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday. While speaking after the CSK vs GT match, Daniel Vettori has said that people didn't give the Gujarat side enough credit for winning their initial games in the cash-rich league.

He again shared that they have been winning matches comfortably at this stage, which are the signs that they are a strong team too. He also said that GT have a deadly bowling attack and their batting lineup too has stepped up.

Daniel Vettori said, "We probably didn't give GT enough credit after their first few games as they were tight and could have gone either way. But someone like Rahul Tewatia, David Miller or Rashid Khan got them over the line. But now they are putting in performances which start to make you believe that this is a very good team. I think it's on the back of a strong bowling lineup and a batting lineup that has a huge amount of confidence."

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans have ten wins from thirteen games and are currently the table-toppers in IPL 2022 points table. Moreover, they were the first team to qualify for the playoffs this year. "You don't see that score very often in an IPL game with only 5 wickets down and that too on a surface that looked pretty good. GT just cruised to it. I don't know how you explain a performance like that other than the changes," Daniel Vettori concluded.

‘Still can't believe Andrew is no more’: Harbhajan Singh on Symonds’ demise

Harbhajan Singh's remembrance of Andrew Symonds is a perfect testimony of how time heals everything. After the demise of the ex-Australian international, Bhajji, like many others worldwide, paid his homage to Symonds. "Wherever you are, mate, we want you to rest in peace, and you would be missed," the former Indian off-spinner said. The friendship between Harbhajan and Symonds has a long history. India and Australia faced off in the 2008 Border-Gavaskar Series at the time. Symonds claimed Harbhajan had used a racist epithet against him in Sydney. As a result, Harbhajan was initially banned for three matches, but this was later reduced to a 50% punishment after a highly publicized battle. Interestingly, a few years later, the duo shared the same dressing room during their stint with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 'Turbanator' admitted that he got close to 'Roy' once he knew him. "Obviously, we've had a lot of history. Thanks to IPL and Mumbai Indians for putting both of us together in one dressing room. And once I got to know such a lovely human being, and we became very good friends. We used to sit together, have a drink, and laugh. He used to share a lot of stories. He was someone who I could call at 2:30 in the morning and say, 'Hey mate, what are you doing, what are you up to, let's meet', and he would be up for it," Bhajji disclosed. The cricketer-turned-commentator showcased an utter shock after hearing about Symmo's death. When Harbhajan heard about the shocking news on Sunday, he couldn't believe it. In an interview with Star Sports, Harbhajan revealed, "I was so shocked when I woke up this morning and saw my phone and I was shattered with this news that Andrew is no more. I still can't believe Andrew is no more because he's such a strong guy and whatever has happened is a very sad thing. My condolences to his family and friends and it's a loss for all of us." Symonds' death at the age of 46 came as a shock to the cricketing world. After the unexpected death of Shane Warne in March of this year, Australia lost another legend in Symonds.
