IPL 2022 | 'Gill has been telling everybody that he is there', Hardik Pandya

Indian all-rounder and Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya has revealed that opening batsman Shubman Gill has been telling everybody that he is there to do the job for them.

Gill, who wasn't retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the mega-auction, has been in sensational form thus far in the Indian Premier League(IPL).

The stylish opener scored a match-winning 46-ball 84 in his second outing against the Delhi Capitals and backed it up with another subliminal knock of 96 off just 59 deliveries against Punjab in the last game.

In three games, the Punjab cricketer has hammered 180 runs at a strike rate of 166.67.

"Gill has been telling everybody that he is there. A lot of credit goes to Sai as well," said Hardik Pandya after Gujarat's thrilling last-ball win over PBKS on Friday.

Despite Gill's sensational knock, Punjab came back brilliantly in their defence of 190, and if not for back-to-back sixes from Rahul Tewatia on the last two deliveries of the match, PBKS would have pulled off a brilliant win.

Hardik knew that and quickly offered sympathy to the Mayank Agarwal-led unit.

"The kind of ups and downs happen, I think I have now become used to. It was Kings' game; some sympathy for them," said Hardik.

Hardik's fitness was under the scanner before the season, given that he hadn't played a competitive game since November 2021.

However, the Baroda cricketer has looked in prime fitness so far and has finished his quota of 4 overs in all three games.

"My body is coping all right; I am getting tired, obviously. As the games come, I'll be getting better," added Hardik.

Gujarat has won all their games so far, and they will look to make it four-in-four in their next outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11.
