Mumbai Indians (MI) faced off in their first encounter for the IPL 2022 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Brabourne Stadium. The two teams took the game down to the wire giving the fans a thrilling contest.

Mumbai scored 177 runs batting first, but considering the condition of the surface, they were 15-20 runs short of a winning total. MI are left with many areas to think about after the match. There were quite a few negatives in Mumbai Indian’s performance, especially in the bowling department.

From the table; it is evident that Bumrah is predominantly a death-over bowler but does a decent job at the start as well. The team would have at least expected two wickets from him in the middle overs when he was reintroduced. But he was able to give none and this was the major reason that cost MI the match.

"I am very happy for Australia and I am very disappointed for Pakistan. They played with a very defensive mindset, made bad pitches, tried to draw the series, and fell into the pit themselves," Akhtar said. "Absolutely disappointing series, this. Absolute nonsense. The mindset of both, the Pakistan Cricket Board and probably the team management was to draw this series. Neither they should win, nor us; just end this series in a draw," he added. Cummins elevated his already soaring status to new heights courtesy of his aggressive captaincy and exploits with the ball in Lahore. And, Akhtar was full of praise for the Aussie captain. "Pat Cummins is a such a 'perky' leader. Gave Pakistan a small total and ran through them. Hats off to him. You're a great bowler and captain," Akh Cummins claimed five wickets in the first innings of the Lahore Test, which led to Pakistan losing as many as 7 wickets for just 20 runs. He also claimed crucial wickets of Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan in the second innings before taking the final wicket, which sealed Australia's 1-0 series win; their first away from home since 2016 and first in Asia since 2011.

'Thought 275 was a good total' - Mithali Raj rues after tournament exit

As the world cup campaign of India's women's team drew curtains on Sunday, skipper Mithali Raj stood behind her players by saying, 'she is proud of the girls'. India lost to South Africa in their final group game, which had to be won for them to proceed further in the tournament. While the openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Varma, came out all guns blazing as the Indian innings took off in a grand style, it was a poor finish that could carry the side to a total of only 274 runs. Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur anchored the ship and scored 68 and 48 runs, respectively. "I personally feel the girls gave it all, it was an important game, was a good game, it ended our campaign, but I'm proud of the girls for coming so far," said Mithali in the post-match interview. With the batters doing a decent job, the bowlers couldn't get the team through to the semis. However, they failed in the task, courtesy of a few missed opportunities, as India got knocked out of the World Cup. Mithali reckoned that the bowlers should have been able to restrict South Africa, but Jhulan Goswami's absence in the match was a huge miss for them. "With the bowlers we had, I thought 275 was a good total, we had defended similar totals in the past. Of course, her experience (on missing Jhulan Goswami) would have added a lot, but this was an exposure for the other girls to step up," she added. Further, the 39-year-old legend thanked fans for their overwhelming support and urged them to keep on cheering for the Blue Brigade. "Everything should come to an end, it'll take time to settle the emotions, but that is a sport. Thanks to everyone who turned out for every Indian game, it was nice to hear your cheers and keep supporting the girls and the Indian women's team in the future," Mithali signed off.
