IPL 2022 | Covid-19 infected Mitchell Marsh set to be hospitalized as pandemic plagues DC's squad

In the latest update, the Delhi Capitals camp has been plagued with the infiltration of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, with Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, one doctor and three hotel staff members testing positive for the deadly contagion.

As a result, Marsh has now been hospitalized. The Western Australian all-rounder has had a tough time in the past few weeks.

He was ruled out of the white-ball leg of the Pakistani tour due to injury, subsequently missing the first five games of the season for Delhi.

Marsh made his first appearance in Delhi's previous counter against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but failed to make any sort of impact with the bat as the Rishabh Pant-led unit succumbed to their fourth defeat on the season.

On Tuesday, the entire Delhi Capitals squad was asked to stay within the confines of their hotel rooms as the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conducted RT-PCR tests.

While the first RT-PCR tests of the entire squad came out to be negative, the second round showcased positive results of the aforementioned named.

Another round of tests will take place on Wednesday before a final call is taken regarding the staging of their next fixture against the Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings.

Delhi have endured a lackluster campaign thus far, having managed just 2 wins in five encounters.

Their previous game saw them go down by 16 runs to the Faf du Plessis-led Challengers as they failed to chase down 190.

Blistering opener David Warner smashed a 38-ball 66- his second 50+ score on the bounce- but Marsh's lacklustre 24-ball 14 proceeded to suck all the momentum away from the run-chase.

Skipper Pant racked up a 17-ball 34, but in the absence of a substantial contribution from the middle-order batters, it proved inadequate.

With Marsh unavailable and Rovman Powell not delivering, Delhi have a few question marks to address ahead of their next game.

Their upcoming fixture will be against the Punjab Kings on Wednesday, April 22, in Pune.
