IPL 2022 | Chahal strikes with a hattrick followed with a celebration for ages

Yuzvendra Chahal stamped his name in the history books with authority as the turbulent leg spinner picked up a hattrick against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chahal finished the match with five wickets to his name, receiving the Player of the Match award in the process.

While KKR were well on the course in the chase of 218 runs, Chahal came in the 16th over and dented the innings, dismissing Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins on three consecutive deliveries.

While the 31-year-old leggie trapped in-form Shreyas lbw, courtesy of a googly, Chahal flighted the ball in the air to send Mavi and Cummins back to the dressing room.

Chahal finished off his hattrick in style as the leg spinner brought smiles to the faces of fans and commentators with an iconic celebration as the Player made a run that would make Imran Tahir proud and then lay down on the ground reminiscent of him lying outside the boundary ropes during India's game in the World Cup, while on the bench.

Chahal spoke about the celebration during the post match ceremony after the game, "It was like a meme in the 2019 world cup. I had to take wickets in that over to change the result of the match. Felt really good that it went my way."

The leggie became the 18th overall bowler and fifth from RR to achieve this feat in the history of the cash-rich league. He has entered the coveted list, and his name now is registered alongside Amit Mishra, Yuvraj Singh, Shane Watson and many more prominent faces of the sport.

The Haryana-born ended the game with the figures of 40/5, bowling his full quota of overs. Chahal's herculean effort resulted in the Royals earning a seven-run victory against the Knight Riders in the 30th match of IPL 2022.
