Champion wrist-spinner Rashid Khan is ecstatic after finally fulfilling his dream to lead a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Khan, who made his IPL debut back in 2017, led his new franchise, the Gujarat Titans, in Sunday's fixture against the Chennai Super Kings after regular skipper Hardik Pandya got ruled out due to a niggle.
Rashid didn't have the best of days as per his standards with the ball, as he returned with figures of 0/29 in four overs.
However, the all-rounder more than made up for it with his bat, smashing a breathtaking 40 off 21 deliveries with the help of two fours and three monstrous sixes to pave the way for a thrilling three-wicket win for the new franchise.
Following the win, Khan posted several pictures from the game on his Instagram account, where he wrote,
"Was always a dream of mine to captain an IPL team... a dream I managed to fulfil, and I will be forever thankful to Allah for. I would like to thank Gujarat Titans players who have contributed in my first win as captain,"
Rashid was also full of praise for David Miller, who smashed an unbeaten 51-ball 94 to help Gujarat seal an unlikely win in the final over after being reduced to 87/5 in the 13th over.
"Last night was a truly special effort. Best seat in the house watching (David) Miller the Killer do what he does best." Khan added.
Khan's whirlwind cameo was central to Gujarat's win. The right-arm spinner revealed that he has been working very hard on his batting and that he considers himself an "all-rounder".
"It's a kind of m captaining the team, but overall the win made it memorable. I have been working hard on my batting. I consider myself an all-rounder, and I want to fulfil that responsibility." he said.
Thanks to a three-wicket win, the Titans have claimed the numero-uno spot in the points table. They will now face the Kolkata Knight Riders at the D.Y Patil Stadium on April 23.
