Pakistan succumbed to a torrid start against England in the seven-match T20I series. The Green Army registered a loss by six wickets in the first T20 International to lag behind by 0-1. The Pakistan batters were subjected to criticism and hate for the team’s poor run.

Playing at the National Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan ended up scoring only 158 runs in their allotted 20 overs. It was a horrendous performance by the middle-order batters as no batter could score even 30 runs. Pakistan got off to a tremendous start as Mohammad Rizwan smacked 68 runs off 46 balls.

The skipper Babar Azam also looked good with the bat but he had to walk back after scoring just 31 runs off 24 balls. Luke Wood picked three wickets while Adil Rashid had two as the host were restricted to a below-average total. Chasing the total, England won in 19.2 overs.

A glance at England’s victory

The opening batter Alex Hales flaunted his class with a sensational knock of 53 runs off 40 balls. Meanwhile, it was Harry Brook who stole the hundred with unbeaten 42 runs under his belt from just 25 balls.

Pakistan’s embarrassing loss did not go well with a lot of fans and cricket pundits. Former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq was among the ones who ridiculed the host for losing to England.

Inzamam believes that England did not play a very good game but managed to score a victory due to a blunder by the Men in Green. He criticized the likes of Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, and Khushdil Shah for flattening on Tuesday.

Notably, the middle-order batting was under the scanner during the Asia Cup 2022 as well. However, despite losing the T20 extravaganza, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to bat the same batting line-up for the England series and T20 World Cup 2022, scheduled in Australia next month.

The veteran speaks about Babar Azam

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the legendary cricketers said,

“Batters coming in at 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th number should hit the strike rate of 150. Then only we can achieve the target. It’s not that England played well, but Pakistan were 15-20 runs short. Things would have been different if Pakistan had 175 plus on board.”

Further in the interaction, Inzamam hailed the wicketkeeper for his fighting knock of 68 runs. The veteran also opened up on the lean patch of skipper Babar Azam. The Pakistan skipper had a horrible Asia Cup. However, Inzamam believes that Babar looks in a good form in the middle.

“It augurs well that Mohammad Rizwan, who is constantly contributing with the bat, also taking care of his strike rate now. Also, though Babar Azam played a short knock, he isn’t looking out of form. He made 24-ball 31."
