The first T20 International of the three-match series between India and Australia was all about the heroics of Cameron Green with the bat. The absence of David Warner paved the way for Green as an opening batter, and he did not disappoint. As Australia opted to bowl first, the all-rounder had a turbulent experience as a bowler.
In his three overs, the 23-year-old conceded 46 runs while picking one wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. Following the poor bowling performance, the young rookie redeemed himself with the bat. Green laid the foundation to help Australia chase 209 runs in 19.2 overs.
Opening the batting innings alongside skipper Aaron Finch, the all-rounder played a class knock of 61 runs. He faced a total of 30 balls and smacked eight boundaries and four maximums at a strike rate of 203.33. He also took home the man of the match award as Australia won the fixture by four wickets.
While Green helped the visitors get off to a blistering start, it was Matthew Wade who applied the finishing touches. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter played a knock of unbeaten 21-ball 45. Wade was all praises for Green’s conduct on the field in Mohali.
