The much-celebrated T20 World Cup is around the corner and is scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and USA starting from June 1. India's squad will be disclosed for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the last week of April.

The Indian team will start their campaign on June 5 against Ireland.

BCCI source informed that ICC's cut-off date for the submission of the teams is May 1, 2024. Every team that will participate in the marquee tournament will get an opportunity to change players in their initial squad till May 25, 2024.

As the 2024 IPL edition is going on and soon after the end of the cash-rich league, the players will have less time to prepare for the T20 World Cup. Although there are chances of Virat Kohli being available for the World Cup and Rohit Sharma has already been given captaincy.

Under his captaincy, India was knocked out of the 2022 edition losing to eventual winners England in the semi-final, by a massive 10-wicket margin.

The senior BCCI source told PTI about the selection of the Indian Team:

"The Indian team will be selected sometime during the last week of April, the time by which the first half of IPL will be over and the national selection committee will be in a position to assess the form and fitness of the contenders," the senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

"The first batch of cricketers will leave for New York immediately after the end of the league stage of IPL on May 19. Those players, whose teams won't qualify for the final four will be going early, like it happened during WTC finals last year," the source added.

As the tournament will take place in the USA and Caribbean the team is expected to travel with few stand-bys, so that in case of any injury from the main squad or forceful removal due to unforeseen circumstances.

India have not won the T20 World Cup since the inaugural edition in 2007 and would be hoping that they break the jinx this time around and bring home that coveted T20 World Cup trophy.
