India's C bowling attack defeated Australia: VVS Laxman

In the wake of the recently announced web show of India's miraculous Test series win over Australia in their comeback; a lot of players and ex-players have started to recall their memories of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21.

Australia's arch-nemesis on the field since 1999, India's former middle-order great VVS Laxman has picked his most memorable moments from the 4-Test series that ended in the visitors' favour; 2-1.

Laxman picked Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari's valiant effort at the SCG and India's win at the Gabba, with a C bowling attack as two of his most fond memories.

“The partnership between @Hanumavihari and Ashwin in Sydney to draw the test match and the one between Shardul and Washington Sundar at the Gabba, an almost India C bowling line up beating a full strength Australians that too at the Gabba, definitely #BandonMeinThaDum,” wrote Laxman on his Twitter handle.

The combined tally of Test wickets between Mohammed Siraj, T Natarajan, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini, and Washington Sundar was 11 wickets; as compared to Australia's tally of 500+ wickets.

Thanks to runs from Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rishabh Pant in the fourth innings, India chased down a mammoth 328 runs on the final day of the Gabba Test to clinch the trophy. This was Australia’s first loss at Brisbane in 32 years.

The third Test in Sydney witnessed the battered and bruised duo of Ashwin and Vihari play out 258 deliveries across the final two sessions on Day 5, ensuring the match ended in a draw, and the series remained level at 1-1.

The series was off to a horrendous start for India, having knocked out 36 in the Adelaide Day-Night Test, handing the home side a 1-0 lead. With Virat Kohli flown back to India for personal reasons, Rahane marshalled his troops in the Boxing Day Test.

His hundred saw the team make a remarkable comeback, beating the Tim Paine-led side by 8 wickets and equaling the series with the SCG and Gabba Tests to go.

Laxman is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, also overlooking India Under-19 and India A squad.

The stylish batsman from Hyderabad is expected to coach India on their tour of Ireland for a 2-T20I series, with permanent coach Rahul Dravid managing the red-ball team in England for their one-off Test.
