Zimbabwe squad announced for Afghanistan series

The 15-man squad of Zimbabwe for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan was announced on June 2 (Thursday). The matches will be played on June 4, 6, and 9 at Harare Sports Club.

Blessing Muzarabani, the highest ranked bowler for Zimbabwe in the ICC rankings, has returned to the team after he missed the Namibia T20I series. For the last two months, he served as a net bowler for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The likes of Richard Ngarava and Wellington Masakadza will miss the series due to lower back and right shoulder injuries. The experienced Sean Williams is on compassionate leave.

Donald Tiripano and Tanaka Chivanga were average in the Namibia series but have been added to the squad as well. However, the all-rounder Tinotenda Mutombodzi has failed to get a call-up for this series.

Currently, Zimbabwe are ranked 12th in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League points table with three wins in 12 appearances. On the other hand, Afghanistan have been impressive to secure 7 wins in 9 matches to sit in the 5th spot in the table. The top eight teams will feature in the ODI World Cup 2023.
