Yo Yo test better than Kohli [Source: @CricketNDTV/x.com]
After a short break, the Yo-Yo test is back in Indian cricket, and under the Gautam Gambhir regime, every player must clear the fitness test to be selected in the India squad. This test was first introduced under the leadership of Virat Kohli, who demanded high-fitness standards from his teammates, but over the years, the criteria were abolished.
Virat Kohli is an inspiration for budding cricketers, not only in terms of cricket but also when it comes to setting the fitness benchmark. He trains like an athlete and preaches to others to follow the same path in order to get better in cricket. The former India captain’s highest Yo-Yo test score is 19.
However, there are other cricketers, who have surpassed Kohli, and have set even higher benchmark in terms of fitness. Here are 4 such players with higher score than Kohli.
1) Manish Pandey (19.2)
One of the fittest Indian cricketers, Manish Pandey, is known for taking blinders on the field, and it is mainly due to his fit and athletic body. As per reports, his highest Yo-Yo test score was 19.2, which was 0.2 more than what Kohli had achieved. The Karnataka batter had played with Kohli since the Under-19 days, but with experienced players in the Indian team, he failed to get a big breakthrough.
2) Mayank Dagar (19.3)
A relatively unknown figure in Indian cricket, the Delhi cricketer, Mayank Dagar, came into the limelight when he posted a picture of himself with a caption - ‘done with Yo-Yo test with a score of 19.3.’ This came as a surprise as the bowler had surpassed Kohli and even Manish Pandey in terms of fitness.
3) Ahmed Banday (19.4)
The Jammu & Kashmir cricketer, Ahmed Banday, sits in second place with a Yo-Yo test score of 19.4 achieved during the 2018 domestic season. The record stood tall for five years before the number one player broke it in 2023.
4) Mayank Agarwal (21.1)
Virat Kohli’s RCB teammate, Mayank Agarwal, boasts the record for the highest score in Yo-Yo test by an Indian. He achieved a staggering score of 21.1 in September 2023, and it showcases the fitness level the Karnataka batter reached to shatter the previous record.
