In recent developments, former Indian batter Ajay Jadeja has been hired by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to mentor its men's national team during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, scheduled to begin this Thursday.

Famous for his finishing touch against Pakistan during the 1996 World Cup, Jadeja represented India in 15 Test matches and 196 ODIs, slamming close to 6000 runs and decorating six centuries at the highest level. However, the 52-year-old cricketing career was cut short due to match-winning allegations in 2000, in which the batter was later found innocent.

Nevertheless, Jadeja is regarded as the finest brains present in the country and doesn't shy of sharing his piece of mind on camera. Meanwhile, the former Indian cricketer will join the Afghan team management led by Head Coach Jonathan Trott, meanwhile Indian domestic veteran Milap Mewada is team's batting coach.

Currently in Guwahati for their warm-up game, the Hashmatullah Shahidi led side will begin their World Cup 2023 campaign against Bangladesh at Dharamsala on October 7.

Interestingly, the Afghan side - who has taken huge strides in international level - have just bagged just one win in two World Cup tournaments. However, they could serve a couple of upsets in the upcoming pinnacle event.
