In an unfortunate turn of events, India's first warm-up match in the ICC World Cup against England has officially been abandoned due to rain. Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first.

However, a single ball couldn't be bowled, as rain arrived a few moments before the scheduled start. The downpour persisted in Guwahati, resulting in second abandoned fixture in the warm-up leg of the marquee event.

The weather in Guwahati was pleasant and ideal for cricket early on when captains of both teams walked out for the toss.

After winning the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat, considering the hot and humid weather prevailing at the venue. However, rain occurred at the wrong time to spoil the party, as the game had to be abandoned, with the players eventually leaving the stadium.

Although the umpires took some time to release the official statement, the game was eventually abandoned owing to incessant rain and inclement weather conditions. Meanwhile, talking about the other warm-up match of the day, Australia will be up against the Netherlands, albeit in a rain-curtailed affair. The game has been reduced to 23 overs per side and will begin shortly in Thiruvananthapuram.
