It's time for the ball to undergo a change in colour and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to take an unorthodox route in the form of the Day-Night Test in Adelaide. India and Australia will lock horns against each other in the second Test match on December 6.

In this article, let's take a look at how India and Australia have performed in pink-ball Tests.

Australia’s Dominance In Pink-Ball Tests

Australia has been remarkably dominant in the Day-Night Test format since its introduction. Aussies has played 12 pink-ball Tests, and out of those, they have won 11. Their only loss in pink-ball Tests came against the West Indies in early 2024.

In fact, Australia has been unbeaten in the pink-ball format at home, having played and won all 8 of their home Day-Night Tests. This dominance is not just a matter of statistics but also reflects how well they have adapted to the challenges posed by the pink ball.

India’s Record In Pink-Ball Tests

India has had a relatively positive but mixed record in Day-Night Tests. India has won three of the four pink-ball Tests they have played so far, with an impressive win rate of 75%. The only loss for India came in the historic 2020-21 series in Adelaide, where the visitors were bowled out for a mere 36 runs in the second innings. The 2020-21 defeat in Adelaide remains a bitter memory.

Despite this, India’s overall pink-ball record is good, with their victories coming against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and a recent win over Australia at the Eden Gardens in 2023.

Conclusion

In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy India will face the challenge of playing at the Adelaide Oval, where they have historically struggled with the pink ball. Australia will enter the contest as heavy favorites, especially given their phenomenal record in the format and their deep experience with the pink ball.
