India-Pakistan likely to face each other in Asia Cup 2022

India and Pakistan are set to renew their rivalry when both sides clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, which will take place in Sri Lanka. Multiple reports suggest that both teams will clash horns on August 28, for the first time since Pakistan spoiled India's spotless record in last year's ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) have been given the go-ahead by concerned authorities and will soon announce the dates and fixtures for the marquee event, which will be played in a 20-overs format, keeping in mind the ICC T20 World Cup in October.

The date for the Asia Cup to begin is between August 27 to September 11. Hosts Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will be grouped, while India and Pakistan will have the winner of the Qualifiers alongside them.

Qualifiers is likely to commence on August 21 and will see nations like Kuwait, Singapore, UAE, and Hong Kong fight it out for that elusive spot.

This will be the second time since the 2016 edition that the Asia Cup will be hosted in a 20-overs format, which was won by India, who defeated Bangladesh quite comfortably.

Tickets for the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan tie on October 23 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) sold out within five minutes of going on sale to the public back in February.

India for the first time tasted defeat in a T20I against Pakistan when the Babar Azam-led XI beat Virat Kohli's men by 10 wickets.

It was Shaheen Shah Afridi’s opening spell that jolted India, where he knocked over Sharma and KL Rahul on 0 and 3, respectively.

Despite Kohli’s best efforts India could manage only 151, which was chased down by the pair of Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, adding 152 in 17.5 overs.

In the process, breaking their 29-year-old jinx of not defeating India in a World Cup game as well.
