The latest ICC ODI rankings are out after the Tri-series finale in Pakistan, which New Zealand won. The updated rankings see the tri-series hosts, Pakistan, falling a place below, while the Indian side after their recent exploits against England, maintains their top position.
New Zealand Gains Rating Points, While Pakistan Falls In Latest ODI Rankings
The recently concluded tri-series between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa was won by the BlackCaps side by a comfortable margin, beating the hosts Pakistan in the finale by five wickets with 4.4 overs to spare. This top-class win came courtesy of their batters Daryl Mitchell (57), Tom Latham (56), and Devon Conway (48), playing helpful knocks to help the Kiwis get to 243 inside 46 overs.
William O'Rourke picked four wickets for 43 runs in his 9.3 overs as Pakistan were bowled out for 242. This high-profile victory helped the Mitchell Santner-led New Zealand side get a team rating boost to 105 points after having 100 to their name earlier. Kiwis were previously tied with South Africa at 100 points and have now moved to 105 rating with 4,414 points to their name in 42 matches as they maintained their fourth position.
On the opposite hand is Pakistan, who finished runners-up in the competition and have, in fact, fallen one place below to third position after playing 39 matches in total. They now have 107 rating with 4,176 points.
Position | Team | Matches | Points | Rating |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | India | 48 | 5726 | 119 |
2 | Australia | 44 | 4826 | 110 |
3 | Pakistan | 39 | 4176 | 107 |
4 | New Zealand | 42 | 4414 | 105 |
5 | South Africa | 41 | 4091 | 100 |
6 | Sri Lanka | 60 | 5954 | 99 |
7 | England | 39 | 3569 | 92 |
8 | Afghanistan | 39 | 3365 | 86 |
9 | Bangladesh | 46 | 3730 | 81 |
10 | West Indies | 41 | 3185 | 78 |
11 | Zimbabwe | 30 | 1578 | 53 |
12 | Scotland | 31 | 1586 | 51 |
13 | Ireland | 26 | 1310 | 50 |
Now, the biggest surprise of these rankings is that Australia, despite losing to host Sri Lanka in a recently concluded two-match ODI series by a margin of 2-0, have regained their second position on the table after being third formerly. The Aussie side have 110 ratings with 4,826 points from 44 matches in their tally.
The team that still bosses the ICC ODI men's rankings are India, who stay at the top after their recent 3-0 clean sweep against 2019 World Cup champions, England. The Men in Blue registered comfortable victories against the visitors as they have 119 ratings with 5,726 points after featuring in 48 matches.
On the other end of the spectrum, if we have a closer look at the table, South Africa, after losing both their matches, are still fifth with 100 ratings. In contrast, Sri Lanka have 99 points and maintain their sixth position but, unfortunately, won't be featuring in the upcoming global event. At the same time, England are a place below them at seventh with 92 points.
Champions Trophy To Begin On 19th February
Therefore, all in all, going into the Champions Trophy 2025, which is slated to begin on 19th February, this table is more or less finalized. The inaugural match of the Champions Trophy will see Pakistan take on New Zealand in Karachi, while the Indian side will have their opening match against Bangladesh in Dubai on 20th February.
