IND vs WI, 3rd T20I: Suryakumar Yadav's grace leaves the Windies startled

After an anticlimactic defeat in the second match of the T20I series, India bounced back strongly and won the third match of the series by 7 wickets.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first in the match. Although the West Indian batters especially Kyle Mayers looked dangerous in the middle , the Indian bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict them to 164 runs in 20 overs.

India's chase of 165 runs was led by their opener Suryakumar Yadav. 'SKY' played a brilliant knock of 76 runs from 44 deliveries and laid the platform for India's win.

During the knock Surya looked perfectly in sync with the conditions and was never in major trouble against any kind of bowling. His scoring shots were distributed throughout the ground and elegance was written all over his presence in the middle.

A peak in to his control throughout his knock against the different types of bowling attack will give us an idea of his dominance.

The table shows that:

  • Only Left Arm Medium Pace caused a bit of trouble to Surya in his knock. The fact he was ultimately dismissed by Dominic Drakes, a left arm medium pacer further signifies the observation.
  • Right Arm Medium pace bowling did not trouble him at all. He not only had 100 percent Control against them but also scored at a Strike Rate of  nearly 178 against the Right Arm Medium Pacers.
  • In general it is pitched that 'SKY' struggles against Left Arm Spin bowlers. It seems that he had that in the back of his mind too. That is the reason his scoring rate was only 100 against Akeal Hosein and he played only one attacking shot against him.

A deeper picture of how approached the different types of bowling will be clear from the following table.

Observation: So, the prime observations from the two tables are:

  • Though SKY was not in complete control against the Left Arm Medium pacers, he looked to keep a positive mindset against them.
  • He was careful and tried to play out the Left  Arm spinner.
  • He was the most aggressive against Right Arm Pacers.
  • He was very comfortable against the Right Arm Medium pacers. But he played less attacking shots against them. This might be because they came into attack at a stage when Surya was mostly looking to rotate the strike and keep the scoreboard ticking.

This gives us an insight to the fantastic knock that Suryakumar played in last night's match. As per as India is concerned, they will hope that his form continues in the next two matches and he helps them win the series.
