IND vs SL | 1st T20: Rohit Sharma becomes highest run-getter in T20Is

India captain Rohit Sharma has now become the highest run-getter in the T20Is and the right-hander achieved the feat during the first match of the series against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. Sharma has now crossed the 3300-run mark and is followed by Martin Guptill and Virat Kohli on the second and third position respectively. 

India were off to a flying start in this first encounter after the openers Rohit and Ishan Kishan had put up a partnership of more than 100 runs for the first wicket. While Ishan had already notched up a fifty, Sharma was unbeaten at 42 off 29 at the time of writing. 

India have come into the series on the back of a scintillating 3-0 win against West Indies while the Lankan Lions suffered a thumping defeat against Australia away from home. They lost the four-match series 1-4.

Ranji Trophy 2022 | Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara dismissed early on Day 1

India batters Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were among the runs in their first respective games in Ranji Trophy 2022 but failed to leave a mark in the first innings of the second. Rahane who had scored a century in the first match for Mumbai against Saurashtra was dismissed for a three-ball duck in the first innings of the second match against Goa. Batting first, Mumbai were bundled out for 163 with Sarfaraz Khan being the only batsman to show some mettle. Sarfaraz notched up 63 during the course of the innings while no other batsmen got into the groove. Rahane was trapped in front of the stumps by Lakshay Garg who eventually scalped six wickets for 46 runs in 14.4 overs. Apart from him, Amit Yadav scalped 4 four wickets for 47 runs in 17.4 overs. Pujara on the other side scored a duck in the first innings of the first match against Mumbai but made a solid return with 91 runs in the second innings. The right-handed batsman failed to carry his form in the first innings of the second match against Odisha and was undone for 8 off 6 deliveries. Saurashtra ended the day’s proceedings at 325/4. The side had a decent start to the proceedings as Harvik Desai and Snell Patel put up a partnership of 58 runs for the first wicket. But the team then suffered a batting collapse and were reduced to 84/3 before Chirag Jani and Sheldon Jackson steadied the ship for the side with a partnership of 130 runs for the fourth wicket. While Jani went on to score 125*, Jackson scored 75 during the course. Later, Arpit Vasavada joined the party and he remained unbeaten at 51 at the end of the first day’s play as Saurashtra were 325/4 at stumps.
