India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was unavailable for selection in the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Lucknow as he complained of pain in his right wrist, which is affecting his batting. The BCCI medical team is examining him.
Gaikwad only played one T20I game against the West Indies where he only scored 4 runs during the course.
Captain Rohit Sharma at the toss said that the right-handed batter was supposed to be a part of the final XI but was unavailable due to a wrist injury.
“Nothing changes as far as the goals of the team are concerned, need to do the right things as a team, need to keep ticking all the right boxes. It's a challenge for the new gutsy - from the last game we played, we have 6 changes. Ruturaj was supposed to play, but he has a wrist injury and will not play today,” he said.
India have already been suffering with injury concerns. Deepak Chahar and Suryakumar Yadav were earlier ruled out due to respective injuries.
