In a strategic call, Karachi Kings have replaced Imran Tahir for Tabraiz Shamsi, whereas Lahore Qalandars will play with Sam Billings instead of Rassie Van Der Dussen for the remainder of the PSL 2024 season.

PSL entered its second and final stage with the Karachi and Pindi leg last week. As the playoff race picks up pace, each contest has heavy implications for the points table. 

Thus, in the wake of increased competitiveness, Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars announced crucial squad changes earlier today.

Karachi, led by Shan Masood, is somehow still alive in the playoff race after beating Quetta Gladiators in the league's 22nd fixture. To strengthen their campaign further, the Kings called up South African veteran spinner Imran Tahir to replace Tabriaz Shamsi. 

The latter has had some health issues in Pakistan and will likely skip the remainder of the season. His absence has prompted Karachi to turn to Tahir.

On the other hand, defending champion Lahore Qalandars, who have officially been eliminated from the tournament, announced Sam Billings' arrival. 

The Englishman will replace the in-form Rassie Van Der Duseen in the squad. Notably, the reasons behind Rassie's unavailability are yet unknown. He recently hit a century for Lahore that unfortunately ended up in the losing cause.

Regardless, with the playoff spot out of their reach, these strategic changes mean too little for the defending champions, who are yet to taste victory this year.

But Karachi Kings are still alive with a timely win over Quetta. Tahir is an experienced spinner capable of leaving a positive impact with deceptive spin bowling skills. 

His trademark weapon, googly, can outclass any world-class batter on a given day. Thus, his addition would surely pump up Karachi's chances of advancing in the points table.

Interestingly, Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings will meet for an epic clash on Saturday later in the week.
