England's tearaway pacer Mark Wood has heaped high praise on the Brendon McCullum-Ben Stokes'-led Test leadership group, stating that his desire to be a part of the set-up in the near future.

Wood, 32, has not featured for England since he picked up an elbow injury in the Caribbean in March.

With the likes of Matthew Potts and Ollie Robinson making the most of their opportunities during the English summer, Wood admitted that he will have to wait for his turn.

However, the talented fast bowler has not given up on Test cricket yet. Despite steadily approaching the wrong side of the 30s, representing the red-ball team still remains the Durham pacers' top priority.

Here's what Mark Wood said in his biography - 'The Woody Life'

"The Test team have had a great summer, they’re winning games, playing entertaining cricket and I can’t believe how relaxed the environment is under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.

"It’s been fantastic and something I would love to be a part of, but I know I’m going to have to wait my turn because they’ve done so well. There’s a long list of bowlers trying to get in that side and I’m one of them. I’d love to play for Stokesy.

"That day will come, eventually, but I’m not there yet. I still want to play Test cricket and play for as long as I can. It was always my dream as a kid, to play for England as many times as I could."

England won 6/7 Tests under Ben Stokes in the home summer

England's Test team enjoyed a memorable home summer this year under the new leadership group of captain Stokes and head coach, McCullum.

After having managed just a solitary win in 17 games prior to the 2022 summer, England swept New Zealand 3-0 as their batters created, shattered records of 4th innings run-chases.

England then won the one-off Test against India before seeing off South Africa comfortably by winning the 2nd and 3rd Test after getting walloped in the opening match at Lord's.

The next challenge for the Stokes-led team is a three-match tour of Pakistan this winter.

As for Wood, he is currently with the T20I squad in Pakistan to take part in a 7-match rubber, starting September 20.
