Former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs has urged Pakistan star batter Babar Azam

Babar, and his opening partner, Mohammad Rizwan, have come under immense criticism for their sedate approach while opening in the shortest format of the game.

Gibbs took to his Twitter account on Friday to suggest Azam that if he can add a few more shots to his repertoire, then he can be even more effective in the shortest format of the game.

Here's what Gibbs wrote:

"If Babar adds one or two more attacking options to his game, his strike rate will improve and be even more effective.”

Babar Azam endured a disastrous Asia Cup

Babar Azam came into the recent Asia Cup 2022 as the No.1 ranked T20I batter in the world.

However, the stylish batter endured a forgettable campaign. In 6 innings, Babar could only manage 68 runs at an average of 11.33 and a strike rate of 107.93.

His highest score in the tournament- a 29-ball 30 in the Super-4 fixture against eventual champions Sri Lanka- was ironically his worst knock of the tournament as he chewed up balls before throwing his wicket away to Wanindu Hasaranga.

Pakistan's issues at the top of the order are exasperated by the fact that both Babar and Rizwan play the same brand of cricket.

Rizwan came in for heavy criticism for his painstaking, match-losing knock of 55 (off 49 deliveries) in the final.

The duo are extremely crucial to Pakistan's fortunes in the upcoming T20 World Cup, and their fans will hope that they will tweak their approach and come out all guns blazing in Australia.
