Bangladesh Women's team was dealt a huge blow ahead of their ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022, starting on September 18 in Abu Dhabi. Veteran fast bowler Jahanara Alam and batter Fargana Hoque Pinky have been ruled out of their campaign.
Alam sustained an injury to her bowling hand during the side's practice session on Thursday, which further required multiple stitches. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced Fariha Islam Trisna as her replacement, who is yet to make her T20I debut.
The 29-year-old Alam has played 47 ODIs and 71 T20Is, claiming 44 and 55 wickets, respectively.
Pinky, on the other hand, tested positive for coronavirus and is currently being treated by Bangladesh's medical panel as per ICC protocol for the marquee event. Shohaly Ahther has been called in as her replacement.
Pinky, 29, from 72 T20Is, has amassed 1,064 runs and in 48 ODIs, she has collected 1,014 runs. Both replacement players will rejoin the team on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
Bangladesh's Group A campaign kicks off against Ireland on September 18, followed by Scotland on September 19, and United States on September 21.
