In a significant development, the ICC has taken notice of Fakhar Zaman's action during the tri-series final and has imposed a 10% fine on his match fees. The International Cricket Council has found the Pakistan southpaw guilty of breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct of cricket.

For the unversed, Fakhar Zaman has been fined 10% of his match fees for arguing and showing dissent to the umpire's decision, an incident that occurred during Pakistan vs Sri Lanka tri-series final.

What happened in tri-series final?

The incident occurred during the 19th over of the first innings when Zaman took Dasun Shanaka's match, but the officials didn't find the catch to be clean and asked the Sri Lankan batter to continue to bat. The decision didn't go well with the southpaw, and he charged towards the umpire in anger and also pointed fingers, which made it pretty clear that a fine was due.

The ICC stated that Fakhar accepted his mistake and was slapped with a single demerit point because it was his first such behaviour in the last 24 months. The ICC press release added that Zaman has been fined for  “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.”

What does ICC's Article 2.8 say?

Article 2.8:  (a) excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire’s decision; (b) an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; (c) shaking the head; (d) pointing or looking at the inside edge when given out lbw; (e) pointing to the pad or rubbing the shoulder when caught behind; (f) snatching the cap from the Umpire; (g) requesting a referral to the TV Umpire (other than in the context of a legitimate request for a referral as may be permitted in such International Match); and (h) arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the Umpire about his/her decision.
