Josh Hazlewood for Australia - (Source: AFP)
In a significant development, Australia has dealt a heavy blow, with their star bowler Josh Hazlewood unlikely to take part in the ongoing Ashes series after a fresh injury. Notably, the right-arm seamer was recovering from a hamstring injury, but has now dealt with a fresh setback, delaying his return to the national side.
A report from the Sydney Morning Herald mentioned that Josh Hazlewood has suffered Achilles soreness as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Notably, for the unversed, Hazlewood missed the first two Ashes Tests due to a hamstring injury but is likely to be out of action for a long time until he recovers from his recurring Achilles injury.
The report added that Hazlewood was set to travel to Brisbane, where he would have continued his rehab, but it was cancelled at the last minute because of the latest blow to his Achilles.
“Josh Hazlewood reported Achilles soreness this week during his rehabilitation from a recent hamstring injury. It is a low-grade issue, and he is expected to recommence running and bowling next week, ” a CA spokesperson said in a statement as quoted by Sydney Morning Herald.
Josh Hazlewood and his tryst with achilles injury
It is not the first time that Josh Hazlewood is dealing with achilles injury, but has a long history of achilles discomfort. In 2023, Hazlewood missed four months of cricket because of this issue, which also forced him to miss India Tests and also cut short his IPL stint because of a relapse.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are also sweating hard as the right-arm seamer has a history of usually taking longer than expected to recover from his achilles injury. Nonetheless, the first priority for the right-arm seamer is to get fit for Ashes.
