In a month filled with exceptional cricket performances, two standout players have been recognized for their remarkable contributions. England's Chris Woakes and Australia's Ashleigh Gardner have been awarded the prestigious ICC Men's Player of the Month and ICC Women's Player of the Month titles for July 2023, respectively.

Who is the ICC Player of the Month in July?

Chris Woakes Shines in the Ashes

What a month has it been for Chris Woakes, first being awarded the Player of the Series in Ashes, and now being honoured with the ICC Men's Player of the Month Award. Despite a tumultuous series that ended in a 2-2 draw, Woakes emerged as a true match-winner for England. After being left out of the XI for the first two matches, he made a triumphant return in the third Test at Headingley.

In a pivotal moment for England's campaign, Woakes showcased his all-round abilities. With his comeback to Test cricket after more than a year, he not only claimed three wickets in each innings but also played a crucial role in a thrilling chase by contributing an unbeaten 32*. This pivotal knock included hitting the winning runs, breathing new life into England's hopes.

Woakes continued his standout performances, securing a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the fourth Test. Although rain affected the final Test, he shone once again by being awarded the Player of the Match for his significant contributions with both bat and ball.

His outstanding tally of 19 wickets in just three matches, coupled with his vital contributions with the bat, earned him the Player of the Series award. Woakes' consistent performances at crucial junctures underscored his value to the English side.

Ashleigh Gardner's Dominance Continues

In the world of women's cricket, Ashleigh Gardner's name continues to shine as she secured her second consecutive ICC Women's Player of the Month award. Her stellar performances throughout July showcased her exceptional skills with both bat and ball.

During the T20I leg of the Ashes, Gardner made her presence felt, even though she went wicketless in the first and last matches of the series. However, in the second T20I, she made her mark by claiming two important wickets.

Switching gears to the ODI series, Gardner's all-round prowess was on full display. In each match, she consistently contributed with both bat and ball, picking up three wickets in every game. Her standout performance came in the second ODI against England, where she not only scored 21 runs but also took a crucial 3/54 with the ball, disrupting England's momentum and playing a pivotal role in Australia's narrow victory.

Gardner continued to excel in the Ireland series, where she scored a significant 65 in the second ODI and claimed three wickets in the third match, securing the Player of the Series award for her contributions.

Her month's tally of 232 runs and 15 wickets across eight ODI and T20I matches highlighted her exceptional skills as an all-rounder, solidifying her reputation as one of the finest players in the women's game.
