"I will ask our CM to speak with Shahrukh Khan"- Manoj Tiwary slams KKR management

Veteran cricket and West Bengal Sports Minister Manoj Tiwary has called for more representation of local players in the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, stating that there is a need for a change in the franchise's culture.

Speaking on Sports Tak, Tiwary sounded highly miffed at the absence of local players from Bengal in the Knight Riders' set-up despite them doing well in domestic cricket.

Tiwary, who, along with local players like Sourav Ganguly, Ashok Dinda, Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha and Laxmiratan Shukla, has represented KKR in the past, believes that the presence of homegrown heroes will not only drive kids in the stadium, but it would also spark a genuine sense of attachment towards the team.

"Local players inspire kids in the stadium. Fans would want to support their local players. They will always support their team, but when they see that there is a local player in the squad, they will take that emotion with them," Tiwary said as quoted by India Today.

Tiwary further slammed the KKR management for not nurturing young Bengal players. He also questioned the fact that if Bengal players can find a place in other IPL teams, then why can't they see the same at KKR?

"Certainly, I would like to see a change. I always say that there should be a lot of players (from Bengal in KKR). So my only question is that if Bengal players can play for those other teams regularly in the playing eleven, why can't they play here. So that question mark is always there on the management. They never talk openly also. They stay silent, and this question mark always remains on them," Manoj Tiwary said in an interaction with Sports Tak.

The former Indian international went on to claim that he will 'ask' Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to speak with KKR co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan regarding the same.

"I will ask our honourable chief minister Mamata Banerjee to speak with Shahrukh Khan. He is West Bengal's brand ambassador. So we'll see what happens after that," Tiwary added.

Tiwary represented KKR between 2010-13 and was a part of the franchise's maiden triumph in 2012.
