I don't think we will see him as a bowler again: Daniel Vettori on Pandya

Gujarat Titans (GT) have become a formidable force in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Hardik Pandya-led side has maintained its position in the top four throughout the tournament, and its skipper has been the prime reason for it.

Pandya has been Gujarat's top run-getter in the ongoing season, with the 28-year-old batting in the top order and scoring as many as 295 runs in just six matches.

Although the swashbuckling all-rounder has bowled 18.3 overs despite the injury woes before the tournament, a groin issue hit him in the match against Rajasthan Royals. It again played a spoilsport amidst his return to full fitness.

While Pandya took only a one-game break, he was not seen bowling in GT's last fixture. However, as the debate around his fitness has again picked up the heat, many pundits gave their personal views.

Former New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori also opined and reckoned that Pandya might never bowl again in IPL 2022, considering the Gujarat-based franchise already has enough quality options.

"I don't think we will see him as a bowler again (in the IPL). I think he is just too important as a batter and as a captain. And the concern about him missing games for the sake of one or two overs... I think they have selected a team now to not worry about his bowling," the ex-RCB coach said, as quoted to ESPNcricinfo.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri stated that Hardik has massively contributed for GT with the bat, but the team management should still be a little anxious about his fitness.

"They have relied a lot on Hardik and not for his bowling but for his batting. If you are in Gujarat Titans team dressing room, you would be a little worried about that," the World Cup winner asserted.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans are sitting at the second spot on the points table and are scheduled to lock horns with the third-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 27 at Wankhede Stadium.

IPL 2022 | RR vs RCB | Parag, Kuldeep Sen star for Royals in lop-sided affair

A typical Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) performance, some horrendous batting, resulted in them losing their second consecutive game, owing to a batting failure against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 29 runs on Tuesday at MCA Stadium in Pune. After some brilliant work by the bowling unit, RCB chased a modest 145, which looked relatively few given their batting prowess. But as has been the pattern over the years, RCB imploded. Virat Kohli opened along with captain Faf du Plessis and never looked like himself. He was lucky when Daryll Mitchell caught a bump ball off Trent Boult's bowling early in his innings. Prasidh Krishna troubled him in the next over and eventually got him off the bouncer. DK came with the scorecard reading 66/5 in 11.4 overs. RCB were in the game given DK's red hot-form, but a moment of madness from Shahbaz Ahmed resulted in a comedy of errors getting DK, in red-hot form, run-out. Ravichandran Ashwin ended his magic spell with figures of 3/17 in 4 overs, scalping a struggling Ahmed in his last over. While, Kuldeep Sen starred with his spell of 4/20 in 3.3 overs. Riyan Parag guides Rajasthan to a respectable total. You expect a Jos Buttler masterclass when you hear about the 'Royal Derby' this season. However, the Orange Cap holder failed to continue with his purple patch. The disaster struck RR when Josh Hazlewood got Buttler caught at mid-on for the partly score of 8, his first single-digit score in IPL 2022. Ashwin scored a quickfire 17 runs but was undone by the pace of Mohd. Siraj, who took a catch off his bowling. Samson got another start by striking Ahmed to back to back sixes but falling ridiculously to Hasaranga, continuing his bad form against the Lankan spinner. With the top three RR batters gone, the onus fell on the Kiwi batter and youngster Parag to continue and score big. With his side tottering at 102/6, Parag took this opportunity by both hands and finished the innings with flourish striking 18 runs off Harshal Patel in the last over. Harshal got Boult out by a brilliant catch by Virat Kohli. For an excellent knock of 56* off 31 deliveries, Parag was adjudged the 'Player of the Match' Award. This win means Rajasthan shoots to the top of table with 12 points replacing Gujarat Titans (GT), who will play Sunrisers Hyderabad in top of a table clash tomorrow. RCB are out of the top four at the moment and will be playing the Titans on the weekend. Brief Scores - Rajasthan Royals- 144/8 (20) Riyan Parag 56* (31), Samson 27 (21) Hazlewood 2/19 (4), Hasaranga 2/23(4) Royal Challengers Bangalore- 115/10 (20) Faf Du Plessis 23 (21), Hasaranga 18 (13) R Ashwin 3/17 (4), Kuldeep Sen 4/20 (3.3)
