IPL 2022 | GT vs SRH | Match 40 Preview, Predictions, Probable XI, CREX XI

A battle of pace aces awaits at Wankhede Stadium as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will cross swords with Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Wednesday (April 27th).

The newcomers, Gujarat Titans, have been the team to beat this season. With six wins in seven games, they are now on second place with 12 points to their credit.

Interestingly, the Titans' only loss came against the 'Orange Army' in an earlier encounter in the season, and Hardik Pandya would be eyeing brutal revenge for that defeat.

Gujarat Titans boast of a dream bowling combination as they have an experienced trio of Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson, and Rashid Khan in their ranks, who have been nothing but a nightmare for the oppositions so far.

However, the only area of concern for the Titans is their powerplay batting, which hasn't clicked yet as Shubman Gill lacked consistency while Wriddhiman Saha, who replaced Matthew Wade at the top hasn't contributed much with the bat.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, started their tournament campaign with two consecutive defeats, but what followed after that was carnage. Five back-to-back wins and Kane Williamson-led unit made it to the top three of the points table.

What they did to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their most recent fixture gives an idea of how brutal their pace attack is. The unsettling bounce and movement forged by Marco Jansen and the vibrant pace by Umran Malik have troubled the batters, while T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been using their experiences to bring balance to the side.

Heading into their next fixture, Hyderabad will be keen to emulate the same team efforts against the confident Titans. However, it won't be an easy task against Hardik Pandya-led side as they would be eager to grab two crucial points to move to the pole position with 14 points.

Pitch Report

Generally, at Wankhede, no total is safe and pretty much anything can be chased in a day-night T20 match, but lately, teams batting first have won the last 5 matches. The average first innings score this season has been around mid 160s.

However, anything above 180 would be considered competitive keeping in mind the short boundaries and possibility of dew. The fact that all the last five games played at this venue have been won by the side batting first, both the captains might look to defend the total.

IPL 2022 | Bhanuka Rajapaksa reveals his plan during his 110-run stand with Shikhar Dhawan against CSK

Punjab Kings (PBKS) middle-order batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa has revealed that the pitch at the Wankhede stadium during Monday's fixture against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wasn't the 'greatest wicket to bat on' initially. Rajapaksa and Shikhar Dhawan's 110-run-stand for the 2nd wicket set the cornerstone for Punjab as they eventually posted 187/4 in 20 overs. The Sri Lankan hitter, who scored 42 off 32 deliveries, joined Dhawan after the fall of Mayank Agarwal's wicket in the last over of the powerplay, which saw PBKS score just 37 runs. The duo upped the tempo during the middle-overs, with Dhawan using his surgical precision to find the gaps to great effect. Meanwhile, Rajapaksa played some audacious strokes, adding to CSK's misery. Speaking to the reporters at the end of the game, the Lankan southpaw described the pitch as tough at the start, adding that they planned to target the shorter side for boundaries besides regular strike rotation. He also heaped high praise on Dhawan, who batted through the innings for a 59-ball 88. During the innings, the southpaw also became the 2nd batsman to breach the 6000-run mark in IPL history. "It was not the greatest wicket to bat on when we started. We had a shorter side, so we knew what we had to do. We had a plan. All credit to Shikhar for how he batted, paced his innings, and talked to me," said Rajapaksa, ANI. "We had a plan to get a boundary ball and rotate the strike. Everything happened as per the plan. The Punjab way is the attacking way. We plan to come hard at bowlers. However, we had to change our ways today," he added. The Colombo-born further added that since the wicket was too paced, he allowed the ball to come to him rather than rushing into strokes. "The more I waited, the more I could place the ball through gaps, the more I played with the middle of the bat," Rajapaksa continued. The total of 187 proved to be more than enough even though Ambati Rayudu kept CSK in the hunt for most parts of the run-chase courtesy of a breathtaking 39-ball 78. However, lack of support from the other end and some pretty good death bowling from Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada ensured that PBKS romped home with 11 runs still in the bank.

IPL 2022 | RR vs RCB | Watch : Riyan Parag and Harshal Patel get involved in a heated altercation

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were up against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in ‘Match 39’ of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Tuesday. RCB won the toss and invited their opponents to have a go with the bat first at MCA, Pune. Riyan Parag, however, played a subliminal knock of 56 runs off 31 deliveries to help his side put up a competitive total of 144 runs on the board at the end of the designated 20 overs. Parag, in his innings, took a particular liking to Siraj and Harshal Patel as he smashed the two Indian bowlers across the park. Sparks were still flying after the end of the innings as Parag was seen exchanging words with Harshal and Siraj. The RCB mainstay seemed extremely animated during the exchange. The two had to be separated from each other before the matter turned ugly. Watch the video below: Their decision came into effect as Mohammed Siraj was lethal with the new ball as he ripped through the top order inside the power play picking up the wickets of Devdutt Padikkal and Ravichandran Ashwin. Josh Hazlewood played the perfect support bowler as he was economical with the ball and managed to put the pressure on in-form Jos Buttler to create the ideal scenario for his dismissal as he tried to pull a back of length delivery but could not get the desired connection and handed the ball to Siraj. Skipper Sanju Samson and debutant Daryl Mitchell tried to stabilize the innings but could not prolong their innings as they lost their wickets to Wanindu Hasaranga and Hazlewood. The West Indian powerhouse Shimron Hetymer did not stay long on the pitch as he lost his wicket to Hasaranga in an attempt to go up and over. As of writing, RCB scored 58 runs at the loss of four wickets, losing Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell in the process. The team still need 108 runs to win this contest.
