BCA T20 Cup bowls off with a bang

Cricket has officially returned to Barbados for the first time in over a year with the start of the Barbados Cricket Association T20 Cup. A jam-packed start over the weekend saw several West Indian stars, including West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, Test batter Shamarh Brooks, all-rounder Raymon Reifer and many others, suit up for their respective clubs around the island.

Wanderer's long time skipper Brathwaite led his team to two victories. He contributed a classy 36 at the top of the order in the opening game against the Spartan cricket club.

Top-flight cricketer Raymon Reifer also featured for Wanderers over the weekend, alongside former West Indies Test skipper Kirk Edwards and opening batter Shayne Moseley. However, Roshon Primus's power stole the spotlight with 86 not out from just 52 balls against the YMPC club.

Former West Indies opener Dwayne Smith also got in on the action with the first hundred of the tournament in a losing cause where he blazed 124 in 74 deliveries at his home ground YMPC.

Moving down the list of West Indian royalty, Jonathan Carter, who played in 33 ODIs for the Windies, registered scores of 42 and 31* and a masterful 3-12 filled with several variations leading the University of the West Indies' A' team to successive victories. Shamarh Brooks, known for his elegance at the crease, lived up to his reputation with his 39-ball 41 on Sunday in Spartan's first win of the tournament against the Foundation school.

Despite some sharp knocks from the experienced players, there was a great deal of youthful presence, with several former West Indies Under-19 players taking part. The standout was medium-pacer Mathew Forde, who competed at the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. He bagged 4-12 on day one and 2/3 on day two, dismantling defending champions and Ashley Nurse's Gladiola club for a mere 79.

Opener Justin Greaves was also in the runs with 60 from 49 deliveries for the Empire Club and was one of several CPL players to take battle. The Carlton Club alma maters, Nyeem Young and Shamar Springer won both the games for their side as well.

In just two games, so many former, present, and future West Indies stars were on display that the BCA T20 Cup is expected to produce captivating cricket. The tournament is already heating up in Bridgetown, Barbados and it will continue next weekend. Stay engaged with One Cricket for more!

IPL 2022 | RR vs RCB | Parag, Kuldeep Sen star for Royals in lop-sided affair

A typical Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) performance, some horrendous batting, resulted in them losing their second consecutive game, owing to a batting failure against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 29 runs on Tuesday at MCA Stadium in Pune. After some brilliant work by the bowling unit, RCB chased a modest 145, which looked relatively few given their batting prowess. But as has been the pattern over the years, RCB imploded. Virat Kohli opened along with captain Faf du Plessis and never looked like himself. He was lucky when Daryll Mitchell caught a bump ball off Trent Boult's bowling early in his innings. Prasidh Krishna troubled him in the next over and eventually got him off the bouncer. DK came with the scorecard reading 66/5 in 11.4 overs. RCB were in the game given DK's red hot-form, but a moment of madness from Shahbaz Ahmed resulted in a comedy of errors getting DK, in red-hot form, run-out. Ravichandran Ashwin ended his magic spell with figures of 3/17 in 4 overs, scalping a struggling Ahmed in his last over. While, Kuldeep Sen starred with his spell of 4/20 in 3.3 overs. Riyan Parag guides Rajasthan to a respectable total. You expect a Jos Buttler masterclass when you hear about the 'Royal Derby' this season. However, the Orange Cap holder failed to continue with his purple patch. The disaster struck RR when Josh Hazlewood got Buttler caught at mid-on for the partly score of 8, his first single-digit score in IPL 2022. Ashwin scored a quickfire 17 runs but was undone by the pace of Mohd. Siraj, who took a catch off his bowling. Samson got another start by striking Ahmed to back to back sixes but falling ridiculously to Hasaranga, continuing his bad form against the Lankan spinner. With the top three RR batters gone, the onus fell on the Kiwi batter and youngster Parag to continue and score big. With his side tottering at 102/6, Parag took this opportunity by both hands and finished the innings with flourish striking 18 runs off Harshal Patel in the last over. Harshal got Boult out by a brilliant catch by Virat Kohli. For an excellent knock of 56* off 31 deliveries, Parag was adjudged the 'Player of the Match' Award. This win means Rajasthan shoots to the top of table with 12 points replacing Gujarat Titans (GT), who will play Sunrisers Hyderabad in top of a table clash tomorrow. RCB are out of the top four at the moment and will be playing the Titans on the weekend. Brief Scores - Rajasthan Royals- 144/8 (20) Riyan Parag 56* (31), Samson 27 (21) Hazlewood 2/19 (4), Hasaranga 2/23(4) Royal Challengers Bangalore- 115/10 (20) Faf Du Plessis 23 (21), Hasaranga 18 (13) R Ashwin 3/17 (4), Kuldeep Sen 4/20 (3.3)

IPL 2022 | Bhanuka Rajapaksa reveals his plan during his 110-run stand with Shikhar Dhawan against CSK

Punjab Kings (PBKS) middle-order batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa has revealed that the pitch at the Wankhede stadium during Monday's fixture against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wasn't the 'greatest wicket to bat on' initially. Rajapaksa and Shikhar Dhawan's 110-run-stand for the 2nd wicket set the cornerstone for Punjab as they eventually posted 187/4 in 20 overs. The Sri Lankan hitter, who scored 42 off 32 deliveries, joined Dhawan after the fall of Mayank Agarwal's wicket in the last over of the powerplay, which saw PBKS score just 37 runs. The duo upped the tempo during the middle-overs, with Dhawan using his surgical precision to find the gaps to great effect. Meanwhile, Rajapaksa played some audacious strokes, adding to CSK's misery. Speaking to the reporters at the end of the game, the Lankan southpaw described the pitch as tough at the start, adding that they planned to target the shorter side for boundaries besides regular strike rotation. He also heaped high praise on Dhawan, who batted through the innings for a 59-ball 88. During the innings, the southpaw also became the 2nd batsman to breach the 6000-run mark in IPL history. "It was not the greatest wicket to bat on when we started. We had a shorter side, so we knew what we had to do. We had a plan. All credit to Shikhar for how he batted, paced his innings, and talked to me," said Rajapaksa, ANI. "We had a plan to get a boundary ball and rotate the strike. Everything happened as per the plan. The Punjab way is the attacking way. We plan to come hard at bowlers. However, we had to change our ways today," he added. The Colombo-born further added that since the wicket was too paced, he allowed the ball to come to him rather than rushing into strokes. "The more I waited, the more I could place the ball through gaps, the more I played with the middle of the bat," Rajapaksa continued. The total of 187 proved to be more than enough even though Ambati Rayudu kept CSK in the hunt for most parts of the run-chase courtesy of a breathtaking 39-ball 78. However, lack of support from the other end and some pretty good death bowling from Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada ensured that PBKS romped home with 11 runs still in the bank.

IPL 2022 | RR vs RCB | Watch : Riyan Parag and Harshal Patel get involved in a heated altercation

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were up against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in ‘Match 39’ of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Tuesday. RCB won the toss and invited their opponents to have a go with the bat first at MCA, Pune. Riyan Parag, however, played a subliminal knock of 56 runs off 31 deliveries to help his side put up a competitive total of 144 runs on the board at the end of the designated 20 overs. Parag, in his innings, took a particular liking to Siraj and Harshal Patel as he smashed the two Indian bowlers across the park. Sparks were still flying after the end of the innings as Parag was seen exchanging words with Harshal and Siraj. The RCB mainstay seemed extremely animated during the exchange. The two had to be separated from each other before the matter turned ugly. Watch the video below: Their decision came into effect as Mohammed Siraj was lethal with the new ball as he ripped through the top order inside the power play picking up the wickets of Devdutt Padikkal and Ravichandran Ashwin. Josh Hazlewood played the perfect support bowler as he was economical with the ball and managed to put the pressure on in-form Jos Buttler to create the ideal scenario for his dismissal as he tried to pull a back of length delivery but could not get the desired connection and handed the ball to Siraj. Skipper Sanju Samson and debutant Daryl Mitchell tried to stabilize the innings but could not prolong their innings as they lost their wickets to Wanindu Hasaranga and Hazlewood. The West Indian powerhouse Shimron Hetymer did not stay long on the pitch as he lost his wicket to Hasaranga in an attempt to go up and over. As of writing, RCB scored 58 runs at the loss of four wickets, losing Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell in the process. The team still need 108 runs to win this contest.
