In yet another twist, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finds itself entangled in a complex situation regarding the scheduling of the ODI World Cup 2023. The complications have escalated as another state cricket association has joined the chorus, urging the Indian cricket governing body to reconsider the dates of the tournament.

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has made an impassioned plea for the rescheduling of the warm-up game slated for September 29th between Pakistan and New Zealand. Their plea is rooted in the fact that the Ganesh Visarjan and Milan-Un-Nabi festivals, concluding on September 28th, pose significant security concerns.

Hyderabad Cricket Association Urges Rescheduling of ODI World Cup Games

The persistent challenges in orchestrating the ODI World Cup have only been exacerbated by the latest request from yet another state association. The HCA's appeal is based on the critical matter of security. Due to the simultaneous culmination of the Ganesh Visarjan and Milan-Un-Nabi festivals on September 28th, the security agencies have expressed their inability to provide the requisite security coverage for the warm-up match scheduled for September 29th between Pakistan and New Zealand.

Adding to these concerns are the two consecutive World Cup 2023 league matches, set to transpire on October 9th and October 10th at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. According to reports by The Indian Express, these matches had already ignited security apprehensions.

Notably, the HCA has communicated their request to the BCCI executives via email, reiterating their plea for reconsideration. The timing of their appeal coincides with the sale of tickets for the World Cup 2023 matches, including the warm-up fixtures, after the BCCI and the International Cricket Council (ICC) jointly released them.

It has come to light that local authorities have once again verbally advised the HCA to reconsider the feasibility of hosting the matches on October 9th and 10th, as they are unable to guarantee adequate security coverage for one of these fixtures. The match on October 10th involves Pakistan and Sri Lanka, while the game on the 9th is slated to be contested between New Zealand and Netherlands.

The Hyderabad Police have conveyed their inability to manage both matches, especially given the intricate security arrangements required for the Pakistan game. Approximately 3,000 police personnel will be deployed for a single match, with a substantial contingent stationed at the hotel housing the Pakistan team. The police have unequivocally informed the HCA that they cannot ensure adequate security for the Pakistan match should the other fixture (New Zealand vs. Netherlands) proceed on the originally scheduled date. Despite these concerns raised by the HCA, the BCCI has chosen to adhere to their initial plan, opting not to alter the dates for the ODI World Cup 2023.

It is worth noting that, despite the HCA's fervent plea, the BCCI has maintained its course, preserving the original dates for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The first World Cup 2023 match is between England and New Zealand set to kick off on October 5th at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.
