The upcoming clash between India and New Zealand in the first semi-final is a highly anticipated rematch of the 2019 semi-final at Old Trafford in Manchester. In that rain-affected encounter, New Zealand edged out India in a nail-biting classic, denying India a spot in the final despite a valiant fightback from Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni.

India's journey to this semi-final has been exceptionally smooth, winning all nine games with apparent ease. Led by Rohit Sharma, they have looked formidable, rarely facing challenges on their way to the knockout stages. The semi-final, set at the venue where India secured their last Cricket World Cup victory in 2011, holds historical significance.  For New Zealand, this generation of cricketers aims to overcome the "nearly-side" tag in white-ball cricket, having experienced losses in ICC Men's T20 World Cup and Cricket World Cup finals.

The stage is set for a compelling showdown, as India seeks its first major tournament win in 12 years, while New Zealand strives to break the finals jinx.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had confirmed the prize money for the World Cup 2023, maintaining parity with the 2019 edition at a total of US$10 million. Despite not exceeding the previous tournaments prize pool, this makes this World Cup the joint most lucrative in cricket.

Notably, the two losing semi-finalists are set to earn a substantial $800,000 each.

Meanwhile, the winner would not just clinch the trophy but also $ 4 million. Apart from this, the runners-up will be receiving a substantial amount of a generous $2 million.
