On Thursday, June 27, India will lock horns against defending champions England in a crucial semi-final tie of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Guyana National Stadium.
The Men in Blue are in top form as they are unbeaten in the tournament so far with six wins in seven matches. Notably, their match against Canada was abandoned because of rain. England, on the other hand, have lost a game in the Super 8 round and finished second in the group below South Africa.
Talking about India and England, the two heavyweights have locked horns four times in T20 World Cup history and both have won two games each.
The last time these two squared off was in the 2022 T20 World Cup and that too in the semi-finals. On November 10, 2022, the two teams faced each other at Adelaide Oval, where England embarrassed India and beat them by 10 wickets to advance to the finals.
In that match, the Three Lions won the toss and asked India to bat first. Indian batters were disappointing in that game and posted just 168/6 on the board. Hardik Pandya was the top scorer with 63 (33), while Virat Kohli also struck a fifty.
Chris Jordan was the star with the ball for his three-wicket haul. In reply, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales went all guns blazing and won the match by 10 wickets with four overs in hand. Jos Buttler amassed an unbeaten 80 (49), which featured nine fours and three sixes.
Alex Hales won the player of the match award for his unbeaten. 86 (47). Following the defeat, India crashed out of the tournament and several players, including Rohit Sharma, broke down as India extended their ICC trophy drought.
