In a significant development, Sri Lanka announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to take place in the USA and West Indies.
Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the Sri Lankan team with Charith Asalanka as his deputy. The squad was approved by the Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando.
Sri Lanka star players Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madhushanka have been added to the squad. Unfortunately, both players sustained hamstring injuries, which sidelined them from the IPL 2024 season, either before it commenced or midway through.
The team is scheduled to depart for the World Cup on May 14, 2024. Sri Lanka will play their first match of the T20 World Cup against South Africa on June 3rd.
