Trent Boult, known around the world for his fast bowling, turned into an unexpected hero with the bat during the 30th match of Major League Cricket 2025. In a thrilling Eliminator clash between MI New York (MINY) and the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU), Boult’s late-game fireworks helped MI pull off a stunning win and move a step closer to the title.

What made the moment even more special? The bat Boult used belonged to none other than Hardik Pandya, MI’s captain, who had gifted it to Boult during this year’s Indian Premier League. And it seems the bat brought more than just runs, it brought luck and drama too!

Trent Boult Turns The Game Around

Chasing a modest total of 132, MI New York found themselves in serious trouble. From a solid start, they suddenly crumbled to 108 for 8, needing 24 runs off the last 18 balls. That’s when Boult walked in and turned the match on its head.

In the 19th over, he smashed two massive sixes off Hassan Khan, one a clever shot over wide long-on, and the other a clean hit straight down the ground. Suddenly, MI was back in the game. Boult held his nerve and finished unbeaten on 22 runs from just 13 balls, sealing the match in style and sending MI into Qualifier 2.

Before becoming a batting star, Boult did what he’s best known fo, bowling with fire. He got an early breakthrough by dismissing Tim Seifert with a beautiful delivery that moved away off the pitch. Wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock took a sharp low catch, and San Francisco was under pressure right from the start.

San Francisco’s Batting Collapse

Played in Dallas, this Eliminator started with MI New York winning the toss and choosing to bowl. Their bowlers dominated early, reducing San Francisco to 62 for 7. A small late resistance from Xavier Bartlett and Brody Couch helped SFU reach 131, but it was well below par, especially in such a high-stakes match.

MI’s reply began smoothly, with Monank Patel and de Kock putting up a 43-run partnership. But once the first wicket fell, things went downhill. Wickets tumbled, and the game seemed to be slipping away from MI’s hands, until Trent Boult stepped up.

With nerves of steel and Hardik Pandya’s bat in hand, he not only saved the day but created one of the most memorable moments of MLC 2025 so far.

The Unicorns are now out of the tournament, and MI moves into Qualifier 2, where they will face the Texas Super Kings on Saturday. A win there will take them to the MLC 2025 Final.
