Watson predicts Rohit to be 'Player of the Tournament' award winner

Notably, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has spotlighted Rohit's on-field brilliance, suggesting he's a leading contender for the coveted Player of the Tournament title.

Reflecting on Rohit's form in a conversation with Star Sports, Watson opined that the Indian captain seems to be in the prime of his cricketing journey. He expressed admiration for the ease with which Rohit has been managing bowlers, highlighting that his ability to dispatch the ball seemingly at his own will is nothing short of a visual delight.

“Rohit Sharma is absolutely at the peak of his powers now - it's a treat to watch him bat - he is dominating all bowlers, goodness me, he hits the ball whenever he wants & toying with bowlers,” said Watson.

The numbers are attest to Watson's observations. Rohit, leading the Indian team, has an impressive batting average of 62.20 after five innings in the ongoing World Cup.

Scoring 311 runs at a strike rate of 133.48, he sits comfortably as the fourth-highest run-scorer. His contributions with the bat have been marked by noteworthy innings, including a century and a fifty.

Meanwhile, India is currently on a formidable winning streak in the tournament. They've secured five consecutive victories, earning them a flawless 10 points, thereby topping the points table. Their successful campaign thus far includes significant wins against prominent teams such as Australia, Pakistan, and New Zealand.

With India set to clash against England in a crucial game on Sunday, October 29th, in Lucknow, the stage is set for Rohit to further bolster his credentials. Given his current form and the endorsement from seasoned cricketers like Watson, Rohit certainly emerges as one of the favourites for the Player of the Tournament award.
