Hardik Pandya, the star Indian all-rounder and the man who led Gujarat Titans to an IPL title in its maiden season, is all set to be back in his original franchise, Mumbai Indians after an all-cash deal of 15 crore between MI and GT. According to the ESPNcricinfo report, the deal is almost done, and Hardik Pandya is set to leave Gujarat Titans after leading them for two seasons.

Hardik Pandya made his IPL debut in 2015 for the Mumbai Indians, and it was his all-round brilliance that played a crucial role in MI’s dominance from 2015 to 2020. However, MI released him after the 2021 edition, and Hardik found a new home with the Gujarat Titans. He was made the captain of the new franchise, and the all-rounder soon displayed his leadership credentials, taking GT to a memorable title win.

It is this leadership skills that seems to be making him a hot asset once again, with Mumbai Indians looking for an able leader to succeed aging Rohit Sharma. It the deal is finalised, it will be the biggest player trade in the IPL history.

The only problem for MI at this point in time though, is the purse they were left with after the 2023 auction. They had INR 0.05 crore left in their kitty, and will get additional 5 crore for this year’s auction, which means to bring Hardik Pandya back in the fold, MI need to release a big ticket player or few of their small-priced players.

There were earlier rumours that GT will trade Hardik Pandya in return of another big player from MI, possibly Rohit Sharma. However, those speculations have been put to bed now, and the deal will be an all-cash deal, making it one of the most unprecedented pre-auction move in the history of the IPL.
