In a shocking incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire at the residence of Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah in the Mayar area of Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday. Fortunately, no one from the cricketer’s family was hurt in the attack.

According to police reports, several bullets were fired at the main entrance and windows of Naseem’s house in Mayar.

A vehicle parked on the property was also damaged during the firing. The local police quickly reached the spot and launched an investigation.

Naseem Shah was not present at the scene during the attack

According to Geo TV, the area of Lower Dir was immediately cordoned off, and forensic teams collected evidence from the scene.

Videos circulating on social media showed visible bullet marks on the gate and shattered glass windows. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as Naseem’s family escaped unharmed.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but investigators are not discounting the possibility of personal or local disputes. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed to trace the attackers’ movements.

Neighbours said Naseem's family were peaceful, respectful, responsible people in their community and were shocked that violence like this could happen in their neighbourhood.

Following the incident, security around Naseem's residence has been beefed up significantly. Interestingly, Naseem Shah was away from his home at the time of the attack, as he was present with the national team in Rawalpindi.

Moreover, his family members are reportedly safe and cooperating with the police.

The attack also adds to the growing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as violent incidents have risen over the past years in the region in the form of terrorist activity linked to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.

In September, a major anti-terror operation in Lower Dir resulted in multiple casualties.

Naseem Shah to continue playing for Pakistan

Meanwhile, Naseem Shah is currently in Rawalpindi as part of the national squad preparing for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, which begins on November 11.

After the ODIs, Pakistan will host a T20I tri-series featuring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, scheduled to run from November 17 to 29 in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

Naseem Shah is expected to play a key role in both series, marking his return to international cricket after recovering from a shoulder injury earlier this year.
