Graeme Smith confirms Indian players will not take part in CSA T20 League 2023

Commissioner of Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 league, Graeme Smith has reiterated that the Indian players will not be available for the inaugural season of the tournament slated to be played in January next year. 

Despite having strong ties with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), CSA has not been able to convince the top brass to secure the services of Indian contracted players. 

Interestingly, the owners of all the six franchises in the CSA T20 League have their own IPL team as well. However, the players are not allowed to participate in foreign leagues played in Australia, West Indies, Bangladesh, and now South Africa and UAE. 

“We have a great relationship with the BCCI and they have supported us as we build our league. At the moment contracted Indian players are not released to participate in foreign leagues outside the IPL,” Smith said.

Smith hopes CSA T20 League will expand talent pool for South Africa

The 41-year-old has reckoned that the main objective of organizing the home-grown T20 league is to improve the domestic ecosystem and expand the talent pool for the national team.

Further, Smith hopes that the next generation of talent will get to rub shoulders with the best in the business by getting exposed to the league, which will help them to grow as a player.
