Gavaskar And Manjrekar Laud Yashasvi Jaiswal's 'All-Format' Potential For India

Former Indian cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Sunil Gavaskar have recently expressed high hopes for young cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal, predicting a significant impact on Indian cricket in the coming years. Jaiswal, who has become a regular in India's T20I squads, is regarded as one of the world's most promising young talents.

Manjrekar, Gavaskar predict bright future for Jaiswal

During the commentary for India's first T20I against South Africa on Star Sports, which was ultimately abandoned due to rain, Gavaskar highlighted Jaiswal's potential as a versatile player capable of excelling in all formats.

He particularly praised Jaiswal's impressive start against Jofra Archer in the IPL, highlighting his natural talent and ability to bring a fresh perspective to the top order, thanks to his left-handed batting style.

"The way he started off against Jofra Archer in the IPL was impressive. He is a very very good talent. Jaiswal brings the left-handedness as well in the top order. He has the freshness of not being tied down by experience. He sees the ball and hits the ball. Jaiswal is an all-format prospect for India," said Gavaskar.

Manjrekar further pointed out Jaiswal's importance in India's T20I strategy, especially as the team looks to innovate in this format. He likened the young southpaw's potential impact to that of Rohit Sharma in the World Cup 2023, suggesting that Jaiswal could play a crucial role in India's batting lineup.

"India can field another T20I team that can compete against other international teams and that's basically what IPL has done. If India is looking to reinvent their approach, Yashasvi Jaiswal could be the man for India. He can do what Rohit Sharma did in the ODI World Cup 2023 for India," added Manjrekar.

The focus on Jaiswal comes as India prepares for the T20 World Cup 2024, set to commence just six months after the conclusion of the South Africa series. With seasoned players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli resting during the South Africa white-ball series, there is speculation about their participation in the T20 World Cup 2024. This scenario presents an opportunity for young talents like Jaiswal to step up and cement their place in the Indian team.
